The President of Poland, H.E. Mr. Andrzej Duda, visited Yad Vashem on 17 January 2017 together with his wife, Agata Kornhauser-Duda. The President and the First Lady toured the Holocaust History Museum, participated in a memorial ceremony in the Hall of Remembrance, and visited the Children’s Memorial.
In the Yad Vashem Guest Book, the President wrote: "Yad Vashem gives honor to the memory of the victims of the Shoah, and recalls the evils that were perpetrated against the Jews by the German Nazis. We also mention with pride the Righteous Among the Nations – those Polish heroes who saved Jews – they are our national heroes. Yad Vashem presents the Holocaust and the tragedy of the Jewish people from the widest perspective… What happened [during the Holocaust] is impossible to grasp but the message of Yad Vashem shows us all the dangers of hatred and what it can lead to."
Following the visit, Mrs. Kornhauser-Duda was presented with documentation regarding Jewish members of her family, some of whom survived the Holocaust, and some of whom were murdered during the Holocaust.
