Worldwide Friends of Yad Vashem
Yad Vashem's 60th Anniversary International Mission
From June 11 – June 18, 2014, Yad Vashem is hosting its friends from around the world in Poland and Israel on a Mission that offers a rare opportunity to experience first-hand the remarkable range of activities conducted by Yad Vashem. This is an exceptional and exciting occasion to explore Yad Vashem in-depth, as we mark 60 years of Shoah commemoration, education, documentation, and research.
The Mission starts in Poland, exploring old Krakow and Warsaw – peeking into a lively Jewish past that no longer remains and seeing what life was like during the Shoah. At Auschwitz-Birkenau, participants will tour Yad Vashem's SHOAH exhibition and partake in a memorial ceremony with the IDF's "Witnesses in Uniform" delegation. The Mission will also visit Treblinka and then participate in a ceremony at Mila 18 in Warsaw. Continuing on to Israel, on the Mount of Remembrance, the Mission participants will tour behind-the-scenes at Yad Vashem as well as replant several Righteous Among the Nations trees that were damaged in the December 2013 snowstorm. Participants will visit an Israeli Air Force Base with Major-General Amir Eshel, and attend a closing event with Minister of Finance Yair Lapid and musical performance by David D'Or.
This unique experience will connect our friends worldwide to Yad Vashem, passing on the torch of remembrance to future generations.
