Recha Kohn

Recha Kohn (Germany, 1920)

Born in Frankfurt to the Beer family, orthodox immigrants from Poland. In 1937, the family tried, unsuccessfully, to immigrate to the Land of Israel. As Polish citizens, they were deported back to Poland in 1938. For bureaucratic reasons, they were returned to Frankfurt. In 1939, with the assistance of a friend, they managed to immigrate to England. In 1942, Recha married David Kohn, a refugee from Vienna. After the war, in 1946, the couple moved to Vienna, where their three daughters were born. Between 1956-1959, Recha studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. Her works have been displayed in numerous exhibitions.
