Created in 2000, the French Memorial Shoah Foundation was established with recovered funds that were stolen from French Jews during the Shoah. The Foundation is charged with promoting in France and other countries, research, commemoration, and education about the Shoah. Their work includes promotion of the actions of the Righteous Among the Nations, conservation of archival documents, supporting Holocaust memorials, and encouraging journeys to the relevant historical sites. The Foundation also supports social work and provides medical assistance for Holocaust survivors.
The Foundation encourages development of Jewish culture and awareness of it in the wider French and European community. It supports equal recognition for all denominations of Judaism. The Foundation supports initiatives to combat new anti semitism and promotes tolerance and inter-cultural and inter-religious dialogue.
Among the Foundation’s many acts of support for Yad Vashem, it recently endowed one of the galleries in the new Holocaust History Museum.
