This lesson deals with Yizkor (Memorial) Books of shtetls in Eastern Europe. These books provide us with a unique way to study about the Jewish life in these small towns before the Holocaust, particularly because they were written by emigrants from these towns, many of them Holocaust survivors.
In this lesson we will learn about the purpose and content of these books. Through reading select passages, we will also discover the diverse and vibrant Jewish world of pre-Holocaust shtetls.
