From within the numbers that were the part and parcel of the systematic and purposeful human atrocity, the image of one Jewish boy becomes clearer. The image has depth and serves as a representation of an entire human world that was severed in a moment, and of concepts of culture that changed and were never to return. It is poignant especially in the face of the intention to erase the identities and the pictures of the different victims who were filled with life and vivacity and hope to hold onto life with all its scope and meaning.
The hazy/blurry image reflected through the numbers imparts a memorial to the imperative to remember the victims as people, individuals with distinct and independent identities. This is an image that contains great meaning and in turn becomes a symbol that provides a visual expression of the complexity of Holocaust remembrance.
