Mayors and governors from 26 cities around the world, including Beverly Hills, Miami Beach, Salzburg, Odessa and Lviv, were hosted at Yad Vashem on 15 November. These leaders are visiting Israel as part of the 31st International Mayors Conference in Jerusalem.
The Mayors toured the Holocaust History Museum, participated in a memorial ceremony in the Hall of Remembrance, visited the Children’s Memorial and signed the Yad Vashem Guest Book.
During her visit, Klaudia Szemereyne Pataki, Mayor of Kecskemet, Hungary, remarked: "What was shocking to me was the Hungarian role during this period. The region with the second largest number of Jewish victims was Hungary. It is very important for everyone to understand what happened during the Holocaust."
