The Visual Center at Yad Vashem, inaugurated in 2005, is a unique international information center and digital viewing library dedicated to Holocaust Cinema. State-of-the-art technology in use at Yad Vashem enables the Visual Center to collect, preserve, and catalogue Holocaust films of all genres. The Center is part of the Yad Vashem Library within the Yad Vashem museum complex.
The Visual Center’s Film Database, the largest catalogue of Holocaust related films, is a work in progress, and film titles from around the world are added to it on a regular basis. There are thousands of films in the database, including documentaries, full-length features, television series, family commemorative films, home video, video art, video dance, clips, news reports and other items, war newsreels, student films, short films, and more. The database includes artistic, commercial, historical and geographic information on each film.
Visitors to the Visual Center can choose a film and view it at one of the individual computer stations on the premises. In addition, public screenings take place at the Center in the framework of academic seminars and educational activities on Holocaust and Film.
Local software allowing for cataloguing and viewing has been installed in the computer stations, and the information on them is protected by computer security systems. The computers are not accessible by Internet, nor can they access the Internet. Films cannot be downloaded or duplicated in any form.
The Visual Center safeguards and protects the rights of copyright holders of Holocaust related visual materials. Thus, films in the Visual Center’s collection are only screened on the premises at Yad Vashem, during regular hours. Any of our visitors interested in acquiring a copy of your film will be referred directly to you according to your contact details.
We believe that by depositing a copy of your film in the Visual Center’s collection you will enable us to stimulate interest in your films among our visitors. We are convinced that this interest will result in public acquisitions, educational activities, academic attention and film industry awareness.
Please send us a DVD copy of your film together with a signed copy of the License and Consent Agreement - Depositing a Viewing Copy .
