A class in the “Jewish Gymnastics Society” (ZIG – Zydowskie Towarzystwo Gimnastyczne) in Krakow, Poland. On the top row, second from the right, is the donor of the photograph, Miriam Keler-Ravid, aged three-and-a-half. First on the right is her father, Wilhelm Keler, one of the founders of the Society, who perished in the Holocaust. On the second row from the top, fourth from the right is Miriam’s sister, Irena Keler, aged six-and-a-half, who survived the Holocaust. During the 1930s, many Jewish sports clubs were active in Krakow, including football, gymnastics, swimming and skiing clubs.
