Yad Vashem is saddened by the passing of Berthold Beitz, a Righteous Among the Nations, and a close friend of Yad Vashem, who took extraordinary risks to try and protect and rescue Jews during the Holocaust. The Righteous Among the Nations are exemplars to us, proof that our choices and actions have an impact and effect. The hundreds of people alive today – Holocaust survivors and their descendants- thanks to Beitz’s actions during the Holocaust are a testament to his courage and heroism.
