On Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 19:00, in commemoration of the "Kristallnacht," pogrom the Yad Vashem Visual Center together with the Jerusalem and Herzilya cinematheques will screen the premiere of the film Radical Evil. The film was directed by Stefan Ruzowitzky and is the winner of the 2014 Avner Shalev Yad Vashem Chairman Award for Artistic Achievement in Holocaust Film. Additional screenings of the film will also take next week at cinematheques nationwide.
Directed by Austrian Oscar-winning director, Stephen Ruzowitzky, the film deconstructs the process of transforming average men into ideologically motivated killers and takes the viewers on a psychological and intellectual journey into the roots of evil. Ruzowitzky's film is composed of re-enactments of actors portraying the Einsatzgruppen soliders, archival footage and sounds recordings from the Holocaust era as well as interviews with psychologists, historians and academic researchers. The Yad Vashem online exhibition It Came From Within, provides an informative and experiential context to the events surrounding Kristallnacht from the perspective of Jewish victims. The exhibition provides information about Kristallnacht, photographs and video testimonies from Holocaust survivors who describe their memories of that night. The exhibition also includes Pages of Testimony that contain the names of the victims and the stories of the Jews who died during Kristallnacht. Some of the victims were either murdered by the Nazis or committed suicide out of grave despair. In addition, viewers can also read the story of Kristallnacht in one German town, Baden-Baden.
