On this Thursday, May 8, 2003 the state ceremony will take place to mark the allied victory over Nazi Germany.
Hundreds of Jewish WWII veterans of allied armies, the majority from the former Soviet Union, Jewish fighters and partisans, disabled ex-servicemen and yishuv volunteers who fought in the British army and the Jewish Brigade will participate in the ceremony.
The Minister of Immigrant Absorption, Ms. Tzipi Livni MK, General Director of Yad Vashem, Ishai Amrami, and Jewish veterans and ex-servicemen will address the gathering.
Wreaths (approximately 40) will be laid by the Minister Minister of Immigrant Absorption, representatives of the Israeli army, the Israeli police force, as well as ambassadors and military attaches from countries that fought against the Nazis, and partisan and veteran representatives Also taking part will be the Israeli Police Force Orchestra, as well as a cantor and singers.
The ceremony, to last approximately one and a half hours, will be held at Yad Vashem, at the Memorial to the Jewish Soldiers, (opposite the Art Museum) at 17:00.
The event is open to the media.
The ceremony is being organized by Yad Vashem, the Israel Information Centre, the Organization of Disabled ex-Servicemen and Partisans, and the organization of WWII veterans, in conjunction with the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption.
