The 2004 Danek Gertner Yad Vashem PhD Scholarship has been awarded to Kiril Feferman for his research on the Holocaust in Crimea and Caucasus. At a ceremony yesterday at Yad Vashem, attended by Avner Shalev, Chairman of the Yad Vashem Directorate, Prof. David Bankier, Head of the International Institute for Holocaust Research, and Prof. Dan Michman, Chief Historian at Yad Vashem, Feferman delivered a lecture on “Karaites and Jews in Crimea and Caucasus During the Holocaust.”
This is the third Danek Gertner PhD Scholarship awarded.
Danek Gertner of Austria is a Holocaust survivor. After the war, he became a successful businessman, whose philanthropy has aided many cultural enterprises, including activities for Holocaust remembrance. In addition to the PhD scholarship, Gertner has made many generous contributions to Yad Vashem, including the construction of the International Institute for Holocaust Research, the Gertner Center for International Holocaust Conferences, the Archives conservation laboratory, and a document collection in Poland.
