The annual Winter Seminar at Yad Vashem’s International School for Holocaust Studies draws to a close today. The seventeen-day seminar, sponsored by Asper International Programs in Holocaust Studies, was attended by dozens of participants from the United States, Australia, Poland, Estonia, Lithuania, Romania, Belarus and Montenegro (formerly Serbia). Together with Yad Vashem specialists and other guest speakers, they to learned about approaches to teaching antisemitism and the Holocaust in the classroom.
“It was significant that Eastern Europeans participated in our seminar, especially since they are just beginning the process of learning about the Holocaust in their own countries”
David Metzler, Head of the Desk for North American Seminars at Yad Vashem
Romanian participant Ecaterina Maria Stanescu adds, “The Holocaust is not only a Jewish issue - it involves all of us.” The seminar was important for all participants; Tania Eshel, from Australia, said, “I wasn’t aware of how much I needed to expand my knowledge of Holocaust education.”
Yad Vashem’s International School for Holocaust Studies is responsible for education in Israel and abroad.
