Today, Yad Vashem Chairman Dani Dayan addressed the IHRA (International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance) Plenary Session in Zagreb, in the presence of Heads of IHRA Delegations from the 35-member countries and international partner organizations.
Chairman Dayan asserted:
"IHRA and its member countries have made it its priority to fight Holocaust distortion and antisemitism. This most certainly includes fighting the kind of distortions that have justified a horrific antisemitic assault on Israel, and that has engendered a huge wave of antisemitism around the world. The international delegations gathered here this week in Croatia must convey to their leaders and decision makers the urgency in fighting global antisemitism. This war against antisemitism is central to IHRA’s mission and mandate."
Chairman Dayan continued:
“These outbursts of antisemitism, thinly veiled as "anti-Zionism", are not really new. Rather, they are a ferocious contemporary expression of the persistently insidious hatred against Jews that has plagued human civilization for centuries, for millennia. It is currently a global epidemic spanning continents and societies.
Following his address, Dayan participated in a discussion session of the Plenary participants about combatting the global wave of antisemitism in the wake the October 7th Hamas massacre.
The Chairman concluded his remarks to the delegates saying:
“I am confident that you recognize what is at stake and I am confident and hopeful that you possess the courage and commitment to do what is right.”
