Background
Yad Vashem Studies (YVS), a biannual, peer-review, scholarly journal, published in English and in Hebrew, is committed to a multifaceted and thorough examination of all aspects of the Holocaust. Since its inception in 1957, it has featured path-breaking and thought-provoking articles on the Holocaust by leading and world-renowned researchers and thinkers on the subject.
YVS is committed to promoting high standards of publication ethics, and expects submitting authors (Authors) to maintain these standards. Ethical misconduct is unacceptable and in cases of suspected misconduct, steps up to and including retraction of articles will be considered by the Editorial Board.
Authorship
Authors are obligated to verify that their articles (Articles), written to meet high professional standards, are authentic and original, and that adequate precautionary measures have been taken to avoid plagiarism, violation of any third-party rights, and breach of privacy and defamation acts. Researchers who have made a substantial contribution to the Articles submitted to YVS should be credited as co-authors.
In certain cases, YVS will publish articles of special importance that have appeared in languages other than Hebrew and English, conditional on receiving permission from the original publisher.
Arguments or conclusions appearing in the Articles, which are a derivation from similar statements formerly published in other published works by Authors or others, must be cited properly. In cases where third parties’ copyrighted materials are incorporated in the Articles, Authors must obtain and supply permission from the rights’ holders and ensure that they are properly acknowledged in the Articles.
If and when Authors find a significant error or inaccuracy in the Articles, it is their responsibility to promptly notify the Editor of YVS of this fact and to cooperate with the Editor in order to correct or retract the Articles.
Articles Submission
Articles submitted to YVS should not be under consideration for any other publication. If, however, any other version of the Articles is under consideration by another publisher or institute, or has been or is intended to be published in another publication, Authors should indicate this.
Articles submitted to YVS must be accompanied by an abstract of approximately 150 words (100 for review essays) that relates the main arguments and conclusions of the Articles, as well as details of the Authors’ institutional affiliation, full address, and other contact information.
Articles are to be submitted in Hebrew or in English and, in exceptional approved cases, in other languages. Prior to accepting Articles for publication, the Editorial Board may request revisions. The final decision regarding publication is made by the Editor of YVS.
There are no author fees or charges for the processing, reading and or publication of the article in YVS.
Peer-Review
Articles submitted to YVS are reviewed by the Editor of YVS, and, if they are deemed as appropriate for YVS, are sent for review to one or more members of the YVS Editorial Board in accordance with their expertise in the subject matter. The Editorial Board members involved indicate whether the Articles are eligible to be sent to external peer-review.
Peer-reviewers, among their other tasks and obligations, are responsible for noting works that have not been cited and for notifying the Editor of any significant similarity they find between the content of the Articles submitted to YVS and other manuscripts.
YVS makes every effort to ensure that peer-reviewers are unbiased and have no conflict of interest with regard to the Articles and the Authors.
Reviews shall be carried out objectively and professionally, and the reviewers’ comments shall be given in a clear and a detailed manner in order to enable Authors to implement them in their Articles.
The YVS Editor and members of the Editorial Board shall not disclose any information regarding the Articles submitted to YVS to any party that is not directly involved in the reviewing process of the Articles and their publication in the relevant volume of YVS. Moreover, the Authors and the peer-reviewers remain anonymous throughout the entire review process.
Editorial Board Responsibilities
YVS pursues a strict policy against the violation of publishing ethics and noncompliance with academic and ethical standards. Members of the Editorial Board shall ensure the preservation of these ethics and standards and are obligated to notify the Editor when relevant claims are raised with respect to the Articles submitted to YVS.
Every concern of unethical conduct will be investigated by the members of the Editorial Board, and if it is found to be valid, a clarification, correction, retraction, or an apology will be published in YVS.
Publication and Copyrights
The final and approved version of the Articles shall be translated by professional translators to English or to Hebrew, according to the language of the submitted Articles. The Authors shall be responsible for approving the English version of the Articles and the Hebrew translations, if their proficiency allows for it.
The Authors and the translators are required to sign agreements that outline their rights, obligations, and restrictions regarding, but not limited to, originality, plagiarism, and copyright matters. Yad Vashem retains the copyrights to the Articles published in YVS.
