Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance in Jerusalem, send its heartfelt condolences to the family of Holocaust survivor Lily Ebert, z”l, who passed at the age of 100. Similar to many Holocaust survivors, Lily has, in recent years, made it her life’s mission to bear witness to the horrors of the Holocaust they experienced, while spreading a message of hope, resilience, and the triumph of the human spirit. Their legacy, along with Lily's lasting influence, will forever be etched in our hearts.
Lily's personal story of survival and her relentless dedication to educating younger generations about the atrocities of the Shoah stand as an enduring reminder that must not be forgotten. Her voice amplified the memories of millions, ensuring that the legacies of those who perished would continue to live on through her powerful testimony. Through her work, Lily shaped the way we remember the past and she inspired countless people worldwide to embrace tolerance, compassion, and humanity.

Lily Ebert's Story:
Lily Ebert, a Holocaust survivor and educator, was born in Hungary in 1923. During World War II, she was deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau with her mother, younger siblings, and other relatives. Tragically, many of her family members were killed upon arrival. Lily survived the death camp and was later transferred to a munitions factory for forced labor.
After being liberated in 1945, Lily made her way to Switzerland and later settled in London. Determined to honor the memory of those who perished, she became a passionate advocate for Holocaust education, sharing her personal story of survival to ensure that future generations would remember and learn from history.
In recent years, Lily’s great-grandson, Dov Forman, helped her reach a global audience through social media, where her messages of resilience and hope resonated with millions. Together, they published a memoir, "Lily’s Promise", recounting her extraordinary journey.
