The management of Berlin Jewish community schools initiated the event. It was the first sports event for Jewish schools in Berlin. 12 Berlin schools (public and private) participated in the event that was held at the Grunewald sports ground.

In 1941, Sonya's parents, Israel and Riva Sabezinski, and three of her siblings, Anna, Dora and Natan, were confined in the Riga ghetto and murdered in one of the Aktions in 1941. Her brother Grisha was killed while serving in the ranks of the Red Army in 1942. Sonya survived in Stalingrad. To read the full story >>>
